Now Lets Starts…

The way of saying something to someone is called Narration or speech. It consists of the words of the speaker. We have two ways of relating what a person “says/said/has said”.

1. Direct speech/narration
2. Indirect speech/narration

1. Direct speech/narration: When we quote the speaker’s actual words is called Direct speech. The sentence of speaker is kept under inverted commas.

Ex: Hari said, “He is one of my friends.”
They said to me, “We have prepared for competitive exams.”

2. Indirect speech/narration: When we report what the speaker said without quoting his actual words is called Indirect speech.

Ex: Hari said that he was one of his friend
They told me that they had prepared for competitive exams.
